It was a normal morning in the court yard at my old high school; I was hanging with my friends before class as usual. I then said something…
“Death from above.”
My friends asked me what I meant.
“No, today I feel there will be death from above.”
They just let it off as Magus being, well, Magus. First period went by fine, and moved into the second.
An announcement came over the PA.
“A plane has just crashed into the World Trade Center. You can turn to channel 23 to see the news.”
Our teacher walked over and clicked on the TV, and we all saw the smoke as it bellowed from the first tower. We watched “live” as the second plane hit, and then found out about the Pentagon.
With that, I remembered the words I uttered only two hours before.
“Death from above.”
Classes continued on, and I moved to third period (my gifted class, holding just ten people, of which one was my girlfriend at the time, and two others were good friends of mine). While in class, we continued watching the news, wondering if we were going to get killed. Yes, that is what was going through our minds. No, we were not in Washington, nor New York, but across the street from a major theme park. No, not that one, the other one.
Well, things got better; we had to evacuate out to the fields that were around the school. Oh, it was not because of the terrorism. Rather it was a bomb they had found, which later turned out to be a coke can wrapped in tinfoil.
So, in the blazing sun, we were without information about what was going on. The deans, being the nice people that they were, were enforcing the rule of “no cell phones” by grabbing each one they saw out, which the students were using to contact their parents. I happened to have a cd player with
a radio, so I was yelling to everyone around me what was going on. Understand that, at the time, we had no idea what was happening; anywhere could be a target. That is what I was yelling to them. Left, right, up, down, everywhere was a target.
Finally, the day ended, and with that ending of the day soon came the end to our freedoms, with the passing of the Patriot Act.
Both sides are going to use this day to say how they are more patriotic then their opponent. How can they protect us from more terror while creating it?
In the end, the most patriotic people are the ones who have lost their lives for this great nation, and the world. So, how about we have a moment to remember them, and not tarnish their memories.

Update on the Sanford/Casselberry Vampire and Shadowlore Meet Up

Update on the Sanford/Casselberry Vampire and Shadowlore Meet Up

I’m so happy about how well this meetup has been developing over the last several months!  We’re getting more and more people in attendance and pulling in people from around the country and around the world through the talkshoe conference call set up!  (I’m so happy I went to the effort of getting that set up and so grateful that I have such tech savvy members to help me keep it up and running and continually improve the sound quality.  Thank you Magus and Kirra!)  The comments people have been making about the quality of the content are also quite encouraging.  So far it is everything I hoped it would be, and that makes me even more ambitious for what we can achieve for our members in the future.

Panera Bread worked out quite well last meeting.  It was indeed quieter for our recordings, and the microphone Kirra brought worked wonderfully well.  We had Doktor call in from Kansas — before his cordless phone died.  Let’s all remember that technology doesn’t always work well around vampires and try not to drain the batteries on our communications equipment, shall we??? ;)

We also had a guest call in from NORWAY!!! We have gone international!  And so dedicated was our guest Folksome that he stayed up until 2:20 a.m. his time (quite a time difference between Florida and Norway).  Yay, Folksome, and yay Doktor for making the effort to join us in the midst of moving.  (Sorry about your friends’ phone!)

I hope we have more and more national and international members and guests joining us in future; please do encourage any friends you have online around the world to join us for a meet up whenever they can.  Talkshoe chat is free, and skype is relatively inexpensive for calling in over long distances.  Please also make use of the downloadable recording of the meeting at the talk shoe site; July’s meeting is MUCH easier to hear and has lots of interesting information.

Hello, welcome to Kentuckyspace! Where everyone knows your legal name!

We here at Kentuckyspace value your privacy. This is why when you sign up you must give your legal name, address, and valid electronic mail address as a precondition of using the interactive service at Kentuckyspace. Not only that but every time you post your full legal name will be shown as the author. That way your boss can quickly find out about your late night drinking, your spouse can see that you are questioning the relationship, and generally with the magic of Google every secret that you feel should be safe, hidden behind the anonymity of the internet, will be just a click away. Kentuckyspace is brought to you by Tim Couch (R-Hyden), a Kentucky state representative who feels that forcing people to post under their real identity, instead of assumed aliases or anonymously, will prevent “online bullying.” Online bullying is a a matter of protecting the children from the dangers of the internet and in no way is it helping the government track you better online.

So what if the site wishes to keep their visitors information private? They can, if they are willing to fork over $500 for the first offense (i.e. first person to post not using their legal name), and $1000 for each subsequent time.

Thankfully this only effects people doing business in Kentucky so there goes any hope of a good server location. Even though this is only affecting one state, if this bill passes, think of what this might cause. You give the government a cookie, and they’ll want illegal wiretaps….

Boycott This Show!

While surfing around the local TV networks, I happened to stumble upon a show that depicts characters that if my children (if I had any) emulated their behavior, would cause a destructive downward spiral in their life. This dreadful show depicts people with no redeeming factors becoming famous after being dreadfully cut down by those they wish to impress at all odds. It shows that by being good at one very limited thing you can become a “great” person, adored by millions. What needs to be taught is that one needs to strive for knowledge, and to help others, instead of being some golden calf worshiped by America. I would rather children learn that knowledge and helping others will help them to move forward in life.

For example, look at Dexter Morgan from the show appropriately titled Dexter, that I recently caught on CBS. Dexter is a forensic scientist who works in Miami Florida as a blood spatter expert, helping the police catch murders. He follows his own personal code in doing his work  — catching the villains of Miami and bringing them to proper justice.

So compared to Dexter, American Idol is worthless filth that fills childrens’ minds with unrealistic expectations that they can slack off, learn nothing, and still become rich and famous. Thusly I demand that people and advertising sponsors boycott this vile show to protect our children from its harmful influence.

I’m looking at you Parents Television Council! Go out and demand it! Because after all, who is a better influence — a vapid air head who teaches kids to give up their life for the falsity of fame, or a serial killer who kills other serial killers to help the world around them and make it a better place? I’d take the latter.

Science Vs. Religion: Round 3

Alright so we already know that the U.S. has a moral stance against using stem cell research because the killing of the unborn. But now what would you say about Nanotechnology?
Well only 29.5% of people in a recent survey say that it is morally just. Now compared to other countries like the UK at 54.1% or even better the French with 72.1%.
29.5%! Now you would think maybe the people surveyed did not know what nanotechnology?
Nope.
The survey respondents are well-informed about nanotechnology and its potential benefits. So you cannot fault for them not understand what it was (but then with the all child left behind act maybe the word science has been deluded).
So why do they not want to accept this valuable science?
Because we would be playing god.
So once again religion beats science.
Evolution
Stem cell Research
And now
Nanotechnology
Once again the American public as a whole follows what it believes to be the word of god, because a book that was finished 2000 years ago is always correct (like what it says about how the earth travels around the sun, or maybe gravity, just some thoughts).

Just some general Vivienne D’Avalon/Persephone’s Haven news:

The PH website (persephoneshaven.com) has its basic pages up again. Magus is working on getting the full ecommerce site up and running for me, but is planning on switching over the domain to a company he can work better with. In the meantime I’ve signed up as an Amazon associate to try to get some links up to all the many books I recommend. We are signed up as associates here at Crone Seraphim too, so we can provide you links to the books we discuss and recommend. [Read more →]
